Project’s original title in Bahasa Indonesia: Buku Sejarah Karinding Priangan

The Karinding Priangan History Book gives a complete picture of stories surrounding the history of karinding in Priangan and Banten. From its appearance in ancient texts, existence as folklores in various areas of Priangan and Banten, recorded attempts of karinding: first in 1893, then in the 1920s, 1968, 1970s, 1980, 1990s, and in 2000s, up to its ‘mass resurrection’ through projects such as Giri Kerenceng and Karinding Attack. These stories of the history of karinding in Banten and Priangan are then reconstructed geographically from Banten, Bogor, through to Banjar. It is hoped that this book would add to the discourse on music in Sunda and Nusantara, as well as further strengthen the younger generation and Sundanese people’s bonds to the historical and cultural roots of their identity .
