The Jaring Herbal project aims to trace the herbal plants that grow close to the community, archive the knowledge of herbal medicines, and connect people through herbal ingredients.
Initiated by Pekebun Malas (Achmad Teguh Saputro Z and Fakhiha Anugrah Prastica), this project also involved 3 other young researchers: Rafsanjani, Wilda Yanti Salam, and Aziziah Diah Aprilya. During the research and archiving process in July 2020, they collected 74 types of herbaceous plants spread across 52 points in Makassar City. All information related to the plants was compiled into a website called jaringherbal.com. From the findings of the 52 points, a map of the location distribution was then made which was connected to each other to form a net. This visualisation is also featured as the cover of the jaringherbal.com website.
jaringherbal.com can be accessed freely as reference for finding herbal plants in the Makassar City area and is planned to be continually updated following latest findings. Latest news related to the work of Jaring Herbal can also be accessed on their Instagram page, @jaringherbal.
This work is supported by Dana SAM as part of Karya Normal Baru / New Normal Work 2020 open call, organised by Jakarta Biennale, Biennale Jogja, and Makassar Biennnale.
Jaring Herbal was selected by Makassar Biennale.
