The second edition of 900mdpl, titled “900mdpl: Hantu-Hantu Seribu Percakapan” (Ghosts of a Thousand Conversations) is presented in October 18 to 27, 2019. The title refers to the research method using a great many conversations around the village with elder members of the society, focusing on what happened in Kaliurang during the timeline of the bigger historical moments of Indonesia. Ghost is often used to normalize things that yet to be understood, voice unheard, multitude of temporalities that remains as an echo of the past and ghost that haunt the building.
Time will be transformed into space using the route choice exploring the area where the first major street were built to connect the city of Yogyakarta to Kaliurang in 1923, completed with public transportation plan and leisure facilities at that time. In 1925, some of the firsts bungalows (referred to as ‘ngloji’ by the local inhabitants) are ready to used by the royal family or Dutch leisure seekers. The term ‘ngloji’ refers to area where ‘loji’—big concrete colonial building or offices that are different from Indonesian vernacular buildings take place.
