Project’s original title in Bahasa Indonesia: Membangun Sekolah Alternatif Pedalangan Wayang Sasak Berbasis Lingkungan di Desa Sesela, Kecamatan Gunung Sari, Lombok Barat

Based on research done by the tourist board of West Nusa Tenggara, there are only 40 dalang left who can perform Wayang Sasak in Lombok. This data propelled an initiative to build an alternative school for environmental-based dalang practice of wayang sasak in Sesela village (Gunung Sari District, West Lombok) to teach young dalangs to play Wayang Sasak inspired by contemporary stories such as the environmental issue surrounding Hutan Pusuk. The plays are planned for regular performance for tourists in Sesela village and touring schools around the Hutan Pusuk area. At each stage that the performance is held, the audience will be invited to take concrete actions by planting tree seedlings in damaged forest areas. This school commenced in 29 May 2015 as Sekolah Pendalangan Wayang Sasak (SPWS).

This project was supported as part of DANA SAM DAN LINGKUNGAN 2015
