This project is a way to look back at natural resource management issues by comparing occurrences in two countries known for their rich oil and gas supply: Indonesia and Nigeria. In its development, the energy industry in these two countries has not been optimally managed, causing various conflicts and destroying the state of nature itself. In designing this project, Maryanto visited traditional miners in Blora and Bojonegoro areas (Indonesia), to show conflicting tensions between the community and the state in managing natural resource. With this in mind, Maryanto also visited Lagos, Nigeria to investigate similar issues for comparative context application.

By looking at historical approaches, political economy, belief and spirituality, social and cultural movements, this project is intended to look at how these factors are seen as dimensions that influence how communities play a role in environmental management and deliver it through the creative intervention of an art project. Maryato’s work from this project was exhibited at Biennale Jogja XIII
