During her residency at Horanggasy, Gwangju, South Korea, Ella Wijt saw many boards of flower arrangements on the streets, they are made to congratulate an opening of a space and other celebrations. These boards are made of plastic flowers, with ribbons and a few of fresh flowers. Usually, after the event is finished, these flowers would be discarded to the trash bins.
There is a version of these boards in her homeland, Indonesia. But they are made from fresh flowers and has rectangular shape. She find this gesture of congratulating with a big flower board interesting. That there is a version of it in Gwangju reminds her of home. That it is a way that is shared between her home and Gwangju, and maybe other places too.
She decided to start collecting these flowers and disassemble them for her work. By collecting these flower she remembering home. By disassembling them She is searching for home. By putting them back together in a different form she is building a memory of home and it helps her to feel at home while she stay at Horanggasy.
