JOGJA_KRONIK is a video work of notes and observations done collaboratively between three artists from different disciplines – a photographer, writer-director, and video maker. Their observations are captured through a series of photos and images, presented in three chapters: chapter one, documenting fears and anxiety at the beginning of the pandemic; chapter two, noting a reflective period in the midst of uncertainties; chapter three, building confidence in establishing ways of life to live in harmony with the environment.

The collaborative aspect of this work reflects a form of survival tactic that arises from a sense of solidarity. In addition, the cross-disciplinary aspect, which is a bit experimental, is expected to bring new experiences to the audience.

This project is also not intended to provide solutions or answers to the problems we all experience during the pandemic. The subjective narratives in this video serve more to show the face of our humanity and reflect on it in life. So that we can determine our attitudes and actions in the future, especially our relationship with nature, the earth we live on, and we can avoid the next explosion of global crisis, namely the peak of global warming.

This work is supported by Dana SAM as part of Karya Normal Baru / New Normal Work 2020 open call, organised by Jakarta Biennale, Biennale Jogja, and Makassar Biennnale. JOGJA_KRONIK was selected by Biennale Jogja.
