Joned Suryatmoko - Residency at the Delfina Foundation

Joned Suryatmoko is interested in the border between theatre and performance, between linearity and simultaneity, character and autobiography, as well as acting and authenticity. Taking this border as starting point, he recently continued expanding his interest by investigating how these performative means (such as theatre and performance) have been used by citizens to articulate their political aspiration in Southeast Asia. He strongly believes that citizens have the agency to transform their own knowledge into aesthetic practices and arts making.

During his residency in at Delfina Foundation, Joned observed what performance means in the local context, how it is created, especially when it is connected to citizenship.

His residency was done during the third iteration of Delfina Foundation’s Performance as Process theme which explores performativity in different forms of collaboration between people, addressing socio-political relationships and collective power.
