There is a constant demand for love — to love one’s nation, land, or work. The demand is not for any kind of love but the correct love and the right way of loving. The obligation for the good citizen is to love the country. A good worker needs to love their work. What are the paradoxes in this love? When loving becomes impossible and even more isolating, are there other love or ways of loving that allow life to thrive?
Departing from the critique on national representation based on defined borders, the pavilion aims at creating a space for generosity, hospitality, and connections, both together and in solitude. Within this intention, the invitation extends to more artist-collaborators with existing practices on sound, composing, hosting, improvisations, and other collective practices.
The pavilion works as a communal space where visitors can rest, listen to different materials, and jam. It equipped with tools to make sound and to attune to more living compositions. The tools are coming from our artist collaborators: Kenduri Rasa, Perempuan Komponis, Mira Rizki, Ella Wijt, Julian Abraham ‘Togar’, Nayamullah, Radio Isolasido, Dian Arumningtyas, New Pessimism, Sejawat Merawat and Maria Uthe.
This project was initiated by a working group consist of Julian Abraham ‘Togar’ (artist-initiator), Syafiatudina (curator), Ratna Mufida (production manager), Natasha Sidharta (commissioner), Enin Supriyanto (consultant). The pavilion is organised by SAM Fund for Arts and Ecology.
