Kokok P. Sancoko

was formally trained as a painter at the Indonesia Institute of the Arts, Yogyakarta (Institut Seni Indonesia). His artistic practice is characterised by a rigorous exploration of the possibilities of painting through the dissection and intersection of forms and colour. In this attempt, Kokok often reduces the image of a concrete object to its most essential planes.

In his recent paintings Kokok pushes his explorations further, to create a visual, two-dimensional mapping of the multidimensional gradients of the psyche. The juxtaposed images create works that are atmospheric, rendered in varying degrees of concreteness and translucence, comprising a kind of virtual world of memories, perceptions and impressions of the past, the present and the future.
